Something Like Spring Fever

1/27/2012

The seeds catalogs have started rolling in at the Jeter Ponderosa. It's got me dreaming of flowers and veggies galore. I look out to our 5 raised bedded garden and think- "should we have more"? We've already got plans to plow up the back part of our yard for corn, melons and pumpkins. And talk of chickens in early spring. I can already taste the quiche's made by the fresh eggs.

And then I remember the last summer and how blooming hot it was. Stepping outside was like stepping into an oven, making me feel like a slow cooked roast, minus the potatoes and carrots.
It's easy to get carried away in the cold of winter when the colorful seed catalogs are full of promise and delicious dishes.
And we're even entertaining the thought of selling our bounty on the square come summer........which honestly excites me, where as a few years ago would have been nothing more than a laugh.

I've been reading The Dirty Life by Kristin Kimball. It's so real and, well dirty. And I'm not sure if you can relate, but the thought of getting my hands in the mud or getting dirty, isn't something I look forward to. Maybe that's the "City Mouse" in me. Her book is something you should consider picking up. I'm kind of envious of their care free approach and how they were able to drop their jobs and start living off the land. Does that appeal to anyone else reading?

Our favorite seed catalog comes from Bakers Creek. They offer all Heirloom Seeds that have been saved for generations. And all are non -GMO. Which in our book is very important.

I hope your weekend is lovely!

The Adventure Project

1/19/2012

My favorite blog  Whatever by Meg featured a really cool fundraiser for The Adventure Project.

It's about helping people in Haiti, specifically women and children who are still living in less than ideal places after the major earth quake 2 years ago. Half a million people are still living in tents! Can you even conceive this idea? Cooking, sleeping, LIVING in a tent for years? My brain cannot even fathom this. I tap out at about 2 nights in a tent, maybe 3. Then I'm ready to head back to the comfort of my cozy home and sleep in my bed.

The project is about helping these women find better ways to cook for their families that doesn't lead to smoke inhalation coming into their tents which is very harmful to breathe, sometimes even fatal.
The video describes it much better than I do. Please watch and then donate.

WIWW- Pinterest Edition

1/18/2012

Hey! Happy Wednesday!
Long time no blog?!

It's life. Been busy, I guess....

Anywho, I'm linking up with Lindsey of the The Pleated Poppy. She started WIWW- What I Wear Wednesday- to encourage herself to get out of her yoga pants and comfy clothes and dress up a little. She homeschools her kiddies and works from home, so not much motivation to actually "get dresses". I think we can all relate to that right? If you didn't have to get up and go out of the house for work, everyday would feel like a weekend? Sounds fabulous to me!
I myself have become very lack luster when it comes to fashion these days. I'm no longer interested in name brands per say, more quality over quantity. Something of an idea that took me a loooooong time to get there.

So I decided to go at is pinterest style for my link up.
Here we go....
I think this look would be great for a weekend. I love the vest, converse, striped scarf and huge red bag. Pretty much I love all of it!

The grey ruffley blouse under the cardi is super adorable! I'm a big fan of the layered look.
And I'm kind of loving the westernish look. The cowgirl affect? Maybe? Kind of simple, laid back.

And this hat jsut screams WEAR ME! Especially on a cold day when you need a pop of color and a little sass.

And here is yet another cheerful ruffley blouse that makes me think of a church outfit, or even a date night outfit. :) Oooolalla.

And then , there's this hair cut! I really love it! Maybe something soon:)

How do you stay comfy and stylish?

Have a great day!

And It's Monday Again.....

1/09/2012

How was your weekend?
Mine was great, but as always, goes by way too fast for my liking.

We relaxed, had friends over for dinner, had a mini bible study get together, ate great food, did minimal housework ( woohoow!).

And now back to the daily grind.

I saw a trailer for a new movie coming out soon. I don't see many movies in the theater anymore, we are all about Netflix at our house.

But this looks really good.

Happy Monday!

30 Day Challenge

1/05/2012

As part of my New Year, new and improved me effort (don't laugh!), I'm taking the 30 Day challenege with K-LOVE.

They are encouraging their listeners to tune in to Christian music for 30 days. Only Christian music. I don't know about you, but my tastes in music vary greatly. I like a lot of music and am a big fan of Pandora and now my new love Spotify. There are so many outlets for music nowdays.

But one thing I do know, music greatly influences your mood. You might think that your moods influences what music you listen to. But I think that if you are a Christ following believer, that you can REALLY benefit from listening to Christian music. It will speak to you and find a way to relate to your situation, whatever it may be.

Will you join me?

The longer we walk with Jesus, and the more we seek His truth, the more we'll recognize His voice and enjoy the freedom found in Him. It is our freedom that Christ has set us free. Galations 5:1

Have a great day!

When In Doubt......

1/04/2012

When in doubt......THROW IT OUT, or donate, pass on,etc.

That is what I want my motto to be for 2012. The clutter, the junk, THE STUFF- it just needs to go. We have things everywhere at our house. Christmas gifts I don't know where to put, clothes that are in between yet I can't get rid of ( I will LOSE the weight and need smaller clothes) and mail that gets looked at then tossed aside to be dealt with later ( this is a horrible habit, I know).

This needs to be the year of organization and priorities all around. Does anyone not struggle with this?

I have found a few links/blogs for help on this.

This is a great daily page of what needs to get done from Lifes A Journal.

This woman from The Simple Mom is AWESOME! She has a plethora or organization tools and tips. I would like to visit her house and see it all in action!
Then there's this Blog, Organizing Made Fun. About having a clean house in 15-20 minutes a day. The picture makes me laugh because I don't think I will look that happy whilst cleaning.
I mostly want to declutter because when you have too much of anything it consumes you. And starting fresh this year is what it's all about for me and my home. I want to implore habits that will last a lifetime for my house and my family. Not clutter and junk. Better habits=happier life. And that will make God happy too.

Have a great day!

The 400-ish Calorie Salad

1/02/2012

There is a girl named Andie who writes a blog called Can You Stay For Dinner? She has an INCREDIBLE story of losing 135 pounds and keeping it off.
She is real.
She is honest.
And she did this on her own accord, with common sense, excercise and hard work.
I heart her.

People write in and ask her questions about her success and she offers up all sorts of advice and tips and AWESOMELY DELICIOUS recipes.

I am a partial fan of salads, but this post makes me want to love them. And since we are back to getting healthy- it IS the New Year after all- I'm diving head first, into the salad bowl.

Check out her post below.

How To Make A Delicious 400 Calorie Salad

So here's to salads!

Happy New Year- Decide What You Will Make Out of This Year

1/01/2012

Visit The Brave Girl's Club Blog and read this......

Now decide.

Then come back and tell us what your plans are.

Some of the things I'm going to let behind are the "coulda, shoulda, woulda's". They are ALWAYS following me.

I'm not going to do anything because someone else thinks I should. Guilt is not our friend!

I'm going to make it a point to be more crafty, even if that means coloring the pages of a coloring book.

I'm going to stay more organized and not put things off until tomorrow or the day after which always turns into never gone get done. I hate that.

I'm also going to make this the LAST year I ever spend overweight. I'm SO over it.

Stay tuned :)

Love the Faithful City Mouse
