Yippee! It's Friday!

5/11/2012

Hello Friday!
I've missed you!
It really doesn't matter what I have going on for the weekend, I am always glad for Friday.

Today I don't have anything uniform to share, just a sprinkling of this and that.

I discovered this blog called Bowl Full of Lemons. And they have a house tour that you will love browsing thru!

And if you are in to that sort of thing like me, you will love Heather over at Life Made Lovely and Her Home Made Lovely series.

Over at Megan's there is always something good to eat, like this and this and this. I could go on and on about how much I love her blog and her recipes, but when you go for a visit you will figure that out pretty quickly :)

I've been stock piling books in my cart on Amazon, whether I will ever purchase them all is another question. But it doesn't hurt to do a little virtual window shopping right?

This video is totally intriguing to me. And this is exactly what the hubby and I would like to do.
You can check out this website here.

I bought this cd over the weekend specifically because of this song. I know, I know- I could have just bought the song on iTunes. Whatever.

I must warn you, that if you listen to this while driving it will make you drive fast.
Just saying.

Have a great Friday!
Tomorrow we are heading to our town's first ever Farmer's Market, so excited!

Guest Post with Annie from The Farrar Four

Happy Thursday!
Today I am so excited to have Annie here with us.
You will absolutely adore her!
I have so enjoyed getting to know her and consider her a long distance friend. Just another reason why I love blogging is getting to connect with cool ladies like Annie!
Hey there Faithful City Mouse Readers!!!!  I’m honored to be here today!

I’m Annie, the momma blogger behind The Farrar Four and the seamstress behind Annie Loo Handmade.  Rachel and I met on Instagram.  Rachel is just a joy!  I’ve so enjoyed getting to know her through her blog and through our emails back and forth!

When Rachel asked me to guest post, I decided my favorite Summertime Pie would be it.  It’s from my mother-in-laws kitchen, so I can’t take all the credit.  You are going to LOVE this pie.  It’s the perfect arrangement of sweet and refreshing.  This is sure to delight any hot summer lunch or dinner party!

With that, I give you Blueberry Banana Pie!

Makes 2 pies

Ingredients:

Premade frozen pie crusts
1 tub of cool whip
1 8 oz bar of cream cheese

1 cup of sugar
1 large can of blueberry pie filling

3-4 bananas

Directions:
Bake the pie crust according to directions.

Once cooled, slice bananas and cover the bottom of the pie pan.
Add more or less according to your love of bananas.

Pour the blueberry pie filling over the top of the bananas.  Half can per pie.

In a bowl, combine cool whip, cream cheese and sugar.
Beat until completely mixed.

Spread over the top of each pie.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

This pie is actually even better, the next day!  If it lasts that long!
Or for breakfast!  It’s fruit right?

Good Morning!
I'm linking up with Alicia @ La Famille today.

To read more about her project and find about how you can join in, read here.

Her last week's prompt was to throw a little lipstick on. I was wondering if there was any dudes joining in and did this challenge???? :)

So this past weekend the hubby and I were in Oklahoma for a short trip, and I got a little dolled up for a date night.

See the glossy lipsstick?!
When we were dating and early married, I always did my hair and looked cute for my hubby. I'm sad to say I don't do that very often anymore. In fact more often than not I don't do my hair, don't get dolled up and think things like "When was the last time I shaved my legs?!"
This night, from the picture above, I felt pretty. You can't see in this picture, but I even braided my bands and straightened my hair! Wow!

Our king size hotel bed was SUPER comfy! I wanted to take it home with us but couldn't fit it in the Subaru. Bummer.

Anytime that I can get Starbucks is a good time.
This was a Venti iced Americano, light ice, with room, 3 sugars please.
So refreshing on a 90 degree something day in Tulsa. Whew!

Got to spend some time (and money) at Barnes and Noble. I could seriously browse at books forever.
Especially the gardening/homesteading/make our earth a better place kind of books.

Before we left, we picked these potatoes from the garden. I couldnt believe how big some of them were! Of course the teeny tiny ones were great too. Eaten raw they tasted like a really healthy potato chip!
There are a few radishes and turnips in the mix too.

This was a staged picture on his part. He would never pick his nose while driving for real. Ha!
He cracks me up!

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Birthday HB!

5/07/2012

Hello Monday!
Today is the day we celebrate my hubby's birthday!
And the fact that our car insurnace will significantly reduce in price due to his birthday :)

I am so glad this guy picked me to be his wife. I feel so blessed everday that I get with him.
I love our Love Story .
In fact we our celebrating our 2nd Wedding Anniversary today as well. We had two weddings and so we celebrate both dates.
You can read about how we celebrated the first of our two dates here and here .

We got to spend the whole weekend together this past weekend, and I so totally love that. We ate Chinese food and watched cable! We were living it up because we're wild like that! :)
I never want to take for granted our time together. It's so special to me.

This guy makes me laugh all the time. He's such a goofball and knows just how to get a giggle out of me.
I thank God so much for him.

Dear HB ( aka. Hunny Bunny)
I love you like crazy, thank you for all that you do for our family to provide for us and to buy Charlie dog bones. We greatly appreciate it :)

Also,
You know how sometimes I add a pic to the Found Link Up on Wednesdays?
Well this last week, they featured one of my pics. And I'm kind of excited about it :)
Go check it out here.

Howdy everyone!
Friday is HERE!
And we are on our way to Oklahoma this weekend for a short trip!
I definitely look forward to a little road trip with my main squeeze.
Charlie the Wonder Dog will be having a slumber party at grammy and grampy's house- yes we are dorks for referring to my parents like that in reference to our dog. What can I say? It's who we are.

We're still having major Barn Heart over here. If you are just joining in, catch up with me on this post HERE.

So I was wasting time on Pinterest, naturally, and found some farmy things I want to share with you.

I don't know about you, but I'm totally swooning over these pictures. I know subscribe to Country Living, Mother Earth News and The New Pioneer ( I think that's the title.)
I never thought that this girl who came from California, to Chicago to NYC would ever end up in Arkansas let alone be thinking and dreaming and wishing and hoping and praying for REAL farm living.
It just goes to show that God does work in mysterious ways.

This last quote makes me think of my grandpa, who moved into a skilled nursing home yesterday. He read me every book from the Little House on The Prairie series when I was younger, taught me how to whistle and lick an ice cream cone just right so it doesn't drip down your hands. I pray that this  is a smooth transition for he and my grandma and that he gets the very best care available. I know God has His hands in this and while none of us are thrilled with this option, it seems to be the best right now.
And to prevent anymore tears from falling, I will bid you a HAPPY WEEKEND!
Be appreciative of each and every day you have with your loved ones, enjoy each moment.
See you Monday!

Happy Day Challenge

Howdy!

It's Wednesday! Woohoo! My mom always used to say Happy H_ _ _ p Day. It weirded me out.
And even now that I'm an adult, I still filter it. But regardless, I'm always glad to see Wednesday because it's that much closer to Friday.

So, I'm pairing up with Alicia @ La Famille Today. She's early into a cool Wednesday project called The Happy Day Project. And while I'm not a mom, I am a gal who needs a break and to feel special every once in awhile.

The prompt for this week was to plant a garden. Holler!
I thought to myself,  "Alicia- I'm already on it girl".
And so here are some pictures, that I can't remember if I've shared or not, some old, some new.

Our garden is already thriving ya'll! Living in the South with early, warm Springs definitely has it's advantages.

We started with seeds. And LOTS of them. I have saved some of the seed packages and still like whipping them out. They are so pretty aren't they?

In no time our squash started looking like this. In the future I don't think we will waste time "starting" squash seeds. Those suckers can be planted directly and they go to town quickly. For real.

Pretty soon the garden looked like this.
We have a European mix of lettuces and spinach, onions and some turnips in this bed.
We have 5 garden beds total that the hubby built for me. He knows my love language.
Here's a closer look. And this is actually an older pic. Our lettuce is now 3-6 inches taller and the onions are starting to bloom, which I can't remember if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

These onions are not only beautiful but mild in flavor and great thrown in a salad, sauce or quiche. Perfect!

We've got so much salad that I bring it to work for lunch, we eat a side salad with almost every meal and we even delivered a garden fresh salad in a bag to the neighbors ( with a jar of strawberry jam of course!)

I never was a huge salad fan until it came right from the garden. The taste is like none other, especially when paired with a simple olive oil and vinagrette combo. A dash of lemon juice, salt and pepper can be enough too.

In addition to our salads we also have potatoes growing and in fact have already eaten one this morning in my quiche. We will have cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash, melons, broccoli, cabbage, corn and a variety of pepers and tomatoes.

My husband is the real green thumb, he grew up on a farm after all. And while we had a garden growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, it was nothing like what we've got going on now. We may even sell a few items at the Farmer's Market next weekend. Woohoo!

For all of you reading thinking I could never do this.....Yes you can!
Just start small, put a few plants in tubs on your deck or porch. Cherry tomatoes grow easily in planters. Lettuces don't need much room to grown and neither do onions. Herbs can easily be placed in planters as well. Just try it! You won't regret it! :)

So go check out Alicia's Blog and tell her that Rachel sent you. You will LOVE her decorating style and way with words. Promise! :)

Happy Wednesday!

I've been browsing over at the Contented Sparrow.
I'm slowly getting to know Megan thru emails and just love her style. In her home, her fashion and most importantly her love of God. You will be inspired by her, trust me.
Today Megan is opening her shop and let me tell you, there are some MAJORLY cute things over there.
You must go check it out here.

I've finally taken a trip over to Apartment Therapy. Their website is full to the brim of fluffing your nest ideas. I especially like the "Budget Living" tab. They have a lot of cheap/frugal/repurposed stuff you already have ideas for your home. And who doesn't love that right?

Since I told you about the hubby revamping an area in our backyard, I have been on the prowl for ideas. I want it to be a beautifully peaceful area to lounge, read a book, eat a meal, sit by the fire, drink coffee in the mornings, have friends over for S'mores kind of place. Any ideas?
In the mean time I've finding inspiration on Pinterest. Surprise, surprise.

I've also been listening to The Avett Brothers station on Pandora. I was kind of late on The Avett Brothers bandwagon, but now I'm hooked. Kind of like Mumford and Sons meets back country. It has a really laid back, bonfire type feel.
Notice how I add in the "bonfire" whenever possible? :)

The hubby and I shared a delicious fajita meal last night. So yummy!
I once had a roomate in college who said she always felt like it was a party if chips and salsa was involved. So true. I have since carried that motto with me too.

Have I told you that Hannah from A Hole Is to Dig or Happy Days has hooked me up with a Pen Pal Gal?
I got connected with Kara. She is awesome! I got her letter in the mail yesterday and on it she drew a cute little stick figure. Totally my style :)

If only I was as skinny as that stick girl.....hmmm.......
I can't wait to write her back. But I don't want to rush into it. I like responding to her mail with a cup of coffee and some real time.
We're early into our pen pal relationship, but I can tell it's going to be a good one.
Kind of like you can usually tell how good a movie is going to be by the beginning music? Yeah, it's like that.
I heart you already Kara! :)

Happy Tuesday all!
Take care!
